Ahmedabad, Aug 4: Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC) has opened a dialysis centre at Vadnagar town in North Gujarat under its Gujarat Dialysis Programme on Tuesday.
The dialysis centre at Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s hometown has been made functional in the premises of GMERS Medical College compound in Vadnagar from Tuesday. The centre is equipped with five dialysis machines to offer high-quality hemodialysis sessions to atleast 15 patients in a day. “Patients used to visit nearby towns of Siddhpur, Kheralu, Mehsana and Visnagar to get their dialysis sessions affecting their productive man-hours but now a GDP centre in the town itself will make their life easy,” Dr Vineet Mishra, Director, IKDRC-ITS said in a statement.
Each bed at the centre is enabled with plug and play LED entertainment screens with bluetooth connectivity to let patients choose and enjoy entertainment of their choice during four-hour long dialysis session. “Light entertainment like music and movies helps patients maintain their blood pressure levels during dialysis session making it a less stressful procedure,” Dr Mishra added.
Funded by government of Gujarat, GDP is the largest public-sector chain of dialysis centres anywhere in the world with 54 centres and 600 dialysis machines. GDP centres provide free of cost dialysis to patients irrespective of their socio-economic background in the state and clocked nearly 14 lakh dialysis sessions so far since its inception. GDP caters to over 3000 patients and performs nearly 25,000 dialysis a month across state, under IKDRC’s qualified technicians and management.
The hemodialysis machines at Vadnagar centre have been facilitated by Fairfax India Charitable Foundation under its countrywide initiative to support Pradhanmantri National Dialysis Programme (PMNDP).
