Rs. 75 crore latest equipment to soon start serving cancer patient at Asarwa Civil Hospital

Ahmedabad: Deputy CM Nitinbhai Patel informed that various machines for the radiotherapy treatment against cancer are installed at a cost of around Rs 75 crores in cancer hospital at Medi-city in Ahmedabad Civil Hospital and they will soon start operating for the patients.

Deputy CM Nitibhai Patel today visited the new building of the Gujarat Cancer Research Institute in the Medi-city campus at Ahmedabad civil hospital. He said that Gujarat is to be the first state in the country to start such kind of ultramodern machines for the radiotherapy of cancer patients in government hospitals. The cost of these machines was borne by the state government. DyCM Nitin Patel informed that the machines are made available from the American and European countries.

The machines installed at the cancer hospital in Medi-city include TrueBeam machine of an American company at a cost of around Rs 16.30 crores, Tomotherapy machine at a cost of around Rs 22 crores, cyberknife machine at a cost of around Rs 27.56 lakh, Brachytherapy machine at a cost of around Rs 3 crore 25 lakh and city-simulator at a cost of Rs 5 crore 86 lakh.

Patel said such radio therapy machines would be available in very few hospitals of India. He said the State government has also started cancer hospitals in Jamnagar, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar districts for needy people. He said the present old building of cancer hospital in Asarwa has 300 beds. The new building when completely functional will have 600 beds. The new building will also have 15 operation theaters and three times more facility of bonemero transplant. DeshGujarat
