Ahmed Patel’s family vacates Delhi residence for Darshana Jardosh

New Delhi: Former Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat and one of top Congress leaders of his time Late Ahmed Patel’s son Faisal Patel and daughter Mumtaz Patel posted a video on Twitter highlighting their memories in 23, Mother Teresa Crescent, late Ahmed Patel’s government allotted official residence in New Delhi for past 28 years on parting. The video was posted by Faisal Patel on behalf of his family to say a final goodbye to this residence.

The residence at the prime location in national capital New Delhi is now allotted to the newly appointed Union Minister of State for Railways and Textiles Darshanaben Jardosh who represents Surat Lok Sabha seat in Lok Sabha. Jardosh had a brief meeting with Ahmed Patel’s wife Memunaben Patel. She in this meeting expressed sympathy over Ahmed Patel’s passing away and also assured that late Ahmed Patel’s family doesn’t need to worry about quick shifting of goods and furniture and they can keep the items in the house as long as they wish without any hesitation and take them away whenever convenient. Generally, a family of deceased member of parliament can stay in allotted government quarter for six months period.

This residence used to be a meeting place of Ahmed Patel with Chief Ministers, union ministers and MPs from various states in past. Ahmed Patel’s preferential time for meeting the dignitaries was night hours. Congress party’s bigwig leaders, media barons, ministers, Chief Ministers would visit the bungalow and wait for their turn in waiting room many times late in the night. Ahmed Patel was Political Secretary to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party’s national treasurer along with Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat when he passed away after prolong hospitalization linked to Covid-19 infection and related complications. Ahmed Patel’s family was set to vacate this residence after his death in November 2020. Ahmed Patel’s favorite white Ambassador car in which he would travel had been recently shifted to his native place Piraman village in Bahruch district of Central Gujarat.
