GMC elections 2021 Results; BJP increases its vote share, AAP eats into significant vote share of Congress
October 05, 2021
Gandhinagar: One of eye-catching facts in the results of Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) election declared today is the increased vote share of third party. Generally, the others candidates barring BJP and Congress would secure 8 to 11 per cent vote share in-total in Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) elections in the past. ‘Others’ previously were NCP, BSP, other small parties and independent candidates.
However this year, the third party which is Aam Admi Party(AAP) has achieved 21.72 per cent vote share. AAP with this vote-share has brought-down the Congress vote share from 46.93 per cent (in 2016) to just 27.99 per cent this time.
Congress had achieved 44.20 per cent vote share in 2011 elections of GMC and 46.93 per cent vote share in 2016 elections of GMC. It has now come down to 28 per cent.
On the other hand, the first-timer AAP has achieved 21.72 per cent vote share. It is easy to conclude that AAP has eaten traditional Congress vote share.
Against the division of votes between Congress and AAP, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has got 46.39 per cent votes, up from 44.93 per cent in 2011 GMC election and 44.76 per cent in 2016 GMC election.
BJP has won 41, Congress has won 2 and AAP has won 1 seat in 44-seat GMC election 2021 today.DeshGujarat
