Gujarat recorded more dengue cases this year compared to last year

Gandhinagar: There is over 6 percent increase in the cases of Dengue this year compared to the previous year.

The state reported a total 10,230 cases of dengue this year (2021) so far. At present, on average over 60 cases of dengue are reported each day. In 2020, as many as 1564 cases of dengue were reported in the state.

The number of dengue cases this year was only 240 till 30 June 2021 in Gujarat. With arrival of monsoon, , 9990 new cases were reported within 5 months post June this year.

The reason behind the smaller number of cases of dengue last year according to health experts was that most of the offices and commercial units were closed due to the pandemic for most of the time. Mosquitoes responsible for dengue namely Aedes Aegypti bite during the day-time. In addition to that, people were also aware about hygiene and sanitization due to the pandemic.

A total 1,77,695 cases of dengue have been reported in the country so far this year. Uttar Pradesh has reported the highest number of dengue cases which is 28,945 followed by Punjab and Rajasthan with 23024 and 19633 cases respectively. Gujarat is on the 8th position in terms of dengue cases. DeshGujarat
