Fire breaks out at Canton Laboratories plant in Vadodara; 2 dead, over dozen injured

Vadodara: Fire broke out with a massive blast in the boiler at Canton Laboratories in Vadodara in which 2 workers died and 14 persons were injured.

A boiler blasted in the morning today at Canton laboratories in Makarpura GIDC in Vadodara. Two workers died after being crushed under the boiler. Total 14 including children were injured. The fire brigade arrived and controlled the fire. The walls of surrounding houses broke and the glass of buildings around 1.5 kms broke in this accident. The police and the 108 ambulance had reached the spot. The injured people are admitted to hospital.

Fire station official Nikunj Azad informed that the company has illegally built houses besides the boiler in which the workers and their families stay. The boiler possibly blasted after being overheated and not properly maintaining the temperature. The electricity connection of the company is cut.

The fire brigade has started an investigation by removing debris as it is suspected that more workers are crushed under the boiler. DeshGujarat
