MPs expose poor condition of Delhi govt schools as Dy CM Sisodia visits Gujarat

Gandhinagar: Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was today in Gujarat to expose the state of government schools in Gujarat. However he himself stayed exposed at the end of the day, as two Lok Sabha members from Delhi showcased the poor condition of Delhi government run schools by tweeting videos.

In an unprecedented fashion Delhi Dy CM Sisodia visited State Education minister Jitubhai Vaghani’s constituency in Bhavnagar to showcase the condition of government schools. Delhi DyCM had stated in his tweet that he visited 2 schools in Bhavnagar- the constituency of Gujarat education minister. He stated that the toilets in the schools were in such a (dirty) condition where one can not even stand for a minute. He had posted a video and several pictures of the schools along with tweets. In response to them, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had stated in his tweet that it feels very sad to see the poor condition of the government schools.

However two Lok Sabha MPs exposed Sisodiya himself by showing poor condition of Govt schools in Delhi itself. South Delhi BJP MP Ramesh Bhiduri posted a video-clip of a school in Delhi in a tweet and stated, “Wah! The reality of the world class schools of Delhi of CM Arvind Kejriwal- liar than the entire world. The truth about state of most of the schools in Delhi – There are 70 rooms in the school against 5000 children. There are not enough teachers and no clean water.”

West Delhi MP Parvesh Sahib Singh also posted some tweets. In one of the tweets, he stated, “Let me show you the world class school of the Delhi government. Manish Sisodia is visiting Gujarat. But I want to show them their schools, for which Kejriwal misleads people of Delhi by installing advertisements worth crores of rupees and asks to increase the education budget by one and a half. Where has that money gone?”

Speaking to a Gujarati news channel virtually from Delhi, Parvesh Singh further exposed the Delhi government over the condition of Govt run schools in Delhi.

He said: ‘I wan to tell Delhi CM and Dy CM that if they have built new schools in Delhi, then they should share their physical address. They don’t tell physical address, when we ask. I got to know that Delhi’s Dy CM has gone to Gujarat to see the condition of Govt schools there. I want the people of Gujarat to send back Mr. Sisodiya to Delhi, so that I can take him to the areas of the state ruled by him and show him the poor condition of Delhi government run schools. When I visited the “world-class’ school here in Delhi, the students were studying in a class-room and there were cracks on ceiling. I asked Vice Principal about this. I was told the school management has sent requests to Delhi government regarding repair. The building was built in 1954. It was in very poor condition. This AAP Government gives Rs. 1 crore advertisement daily in media. They can better utilize it in school. One school can be repaired for this much of cost. The school I visited had no clean water. Power was also a problem, they said power failure continue for 12 hours and students have to seat in heat. Toilet is in poor condition as well.’

Parvesh Singh further said: ‘The news channels don’t make cross question to Kejriwal, they don’t demand physical address when Kejriwal claims that he has built such and such number of schools and colleges.’

He said- ‘Delhi Dy CM should first take care of his own state. Just one month ago, an AAP councilor was nabbed in Rs. 1 lakh bribe case. AAP councilor was also involved in Delhi riots. The people see their claims in advertisements and TV coverage but not on the surface. In my Lok Sabha area, there are not one or two but many schools that have remained unchanged since independence of country. They are in same condition.’

Parvesh Singh said there are 950 Govt run schools in Delhi and 50 per cent schools out of them have no principal. Then there are schools that have no science or commerce streams. The students are compelled to take Arts.

Exposing the AAP Govt claim regarding higher percentage of passing in class-11 and 12 in Delhi Govt run schools, Parvesh Singh said – you might have heard time and again the Delhi Chief Minister’s claim that class 11 – 12 results are so well in Delhi Govt run schools. The fact is that weak students in class 8-9 are failed and asked to leave schools. They aren’t allowed to repeat. They are asked to take correspondence course. And therefore the results of higher standards in Delhi Govt schools witness high percentage of passing. During BJP and Congress governments in Delhi, the students were not asked to leave the school in class 8-9-10. As many as one and half lakh students are failed in class 8th and 9th to show higher results in the classes of 10th, 11th, and 12th.

Another BJP MPs Ramesh Bidhuri said – ‘Delhi has about 1,000 schools run by Delhi Govt. Kejriwal had said that he would build 500 new schools in Delhi if elected to power. I filed RTI and inquire how many schools have been built in 7 years rule of Kejriwal so far. Last year he replied my RTI and stated that only one new school has been built under his government. Kejriwal tried to do politics over schools. He said he has built world-class schools that are nowhere else. I went to 9 schools run by Delhi govt this morning – 5 schools of Badarpur and others in Tughalabad and elsewhere. In Moradband based school 6,600 students get education in 65 rooms. Kejriwal had said we would build 500 schools. How many schools were built by his govt? He had said 20 colleges will be opened. No college has been opened in 7 years. AAP knows that Gujarat people are not going to check the realities in Delhi. In one class there are 100 students. A school with 5,000 children has 72 rooms. When I visited a school, the Principal added a laboratory room to the total number of rooms in the school. I asked her why she was clubbing a lab into total number of classrooms.’

Bidhuri further said, ‘There are not sufficient teachers and principals in Delhi govt schools. Kejriwal must first correct the education system in Delhi. Kejriwal has cheated the people of Delhi by promising 500 new schools and opening just one school against the promise. Instead of losing deposits of candidates in Uttarakhand, Goa and elsewhere, AAP govt must correct the system in Delhi from where they are elected.’

Bidhuri said he has challenged Delhi’s Dy CM and Education minister Manish Sisodiya to come for an open debate on education and condition of schools in Delhi with him for number of times, but Sisodiya has not agreed. Sisodiya has been elected by the people of Delhi and he should debate there. Instead, why is he insisting in debate with the education minister of Gujarat! Is Sisodiya and his govt is elected from Gujarat or Delhi?

Reacting to today’s developments, Educationist Jagdish Anerao said, ‘in the National Education index, Gujarat is in 9th place while a few years ago it was on 14th rank. Gujarat’s many universities are now in ‘A’ grade category, while this was not the scenario a few years ago. Gujarat has many good model schools run by State govt, functioning in Rann of Kutch, in tribal areas and in urban and rural areas. Gujarat is good in education. There are shortcomings everywhere.

Another educationist Shri Kirit Joshi, former principal of CN school in Ahmedabad opined that Sisodiya’s attempt was to see half empty glass for political motives. The education sector must be spared by such politicians and their political tactics. DeshGujarat
