The Himmatnagar Files: Hindu families leave houses after heavy stone pelting, petrol bomb attacks last night

Himmatnagar: It’s Himmatnagarfiles in Gujarat. Minority Hindus from Vanzarawas area are leaving their homes. These are poor Schedule Caste people. There are 70 to 80 houses in Vanzarawas and around 200 people live here. After two-hour long stone pelting by Muslims from neighboring Chandnagar area they are vacating their homes and shifting elsewhere. A local says, entire Chandnagar area gathered to attack Vanzarawas with stones. Even petrol bombs were hurled, a local says adding that they had steel roof over their house, but suppose if there was cement roof, then they could be dead. The locals said, they are lesser in number compared to thousands of Muslims from Chandnagar who are in attack mode. A local said, police take Hindu persons and put them in lockup instead of protecting them. A woman complained that fans and gas cylinders were taken away from her house and shop. Last night’s heavy stone pelting over Hindu locality took place after violent attacks twice on Ram Navami procession in Muslims populated Chhapariya area here couple of days ago. Several police men were injured and vehicles were burnt during the attack on Ram Navami procession in Himmatnagar couple of days ago.

Meanwhile Range IG Abhay Chudasama who has camped in the town after Ram Navami violence, reached Vanzarawas today morning and reviewed the security arrangements there. He said a police point has been set up at Vanzarawas and locals are assured regarding their security. The locals do not need to leave the place. State Police chief Ashish Bhatiya himself visited Himmatnagar to review the situation. He said shifting has not taken place and if at all such an issue persists, it will be solved. He said police had reached there and combing was carried out. A total of ten accused were rounded up from the place, the State Police chief said. Separate teams are formed for investigation and arrests. The offence has been registered and suitable sections are also added, he further said. He said two companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF) and four companies of State Reserve Force’s are deployed along with extra police force from neighboring districts.

MoS, Home Harsh Sanghavi also reached Himmatnagar and held meetings with police officials. He will again hold a meeting in the evening today.

Gujarat CM chairs a meeting

Gujarat Chief Minister held a meeting late in the evening over Ram Navami violence in Khambhat and Himmatnagar. The Chief Minister asked police to take strict actions against those who disturb peace in the State. MoS Home Harsh Sanghavi in this meeting informed the CM that 9 persons were held in Khambhat and 22 in Himmatnagar for violence.
