Citizens furious as airport roads turn ‘No Parking’ zone

Ahmedabad: It has been quite some time now that passengers have been complaining that the security agency staff at the airport are locking vehicles in the name of “No Parking” zone and levying fines ranging from Rs 300 to Rs 1,000. There have been 5-6 incidents of vehicle locking by the airport security agency in the last week itself but the agency claims everything is happening as per regulations.

According to the passengers, the entire stretch between Flag circle and the airport is under the purview of the AMC, where only the traffic police can impose fines. The rules of the airport state that fines cannot exceed Rs 300 and therefore the fines that the security agency are levying are completely illegal.

The airport police also agree that they have to intervene in vehicle locking instances many times and even they are now tired of resolving such disputes.

However, officials from the security agency say that they have an agreement with the airport to not let any vehicles park from flag circle onwards and have also put up signboards to the effect. They say that they charge Rs 300 as fine from two-wheelers, Rs 400 from three wheelers and Rs 1,000 from four wheelers if they park anywhere on the entire stretch between flag circle and airport.

Meanwhile, the airport authorities pointed out that the security agency doesn’t allow vehicles to park and collects fines even on the stretch between Hotel Pristine and the flag circle, which is under the AMC. DeshGujarat
