Group of farmers bring work on 60 km stretch of Bharuch expressway to a halt
May 30, 2022
Ankleshwar: Farmers from Ankleshwar have stopped the work on the Bhadbhut River Barrage and Expressway projects indefinitely demanding proper compensation for the land that has been acquired for them. As a result, work on the 60 km stretch of the expressway between Bharuch district’s Matar village in Amod taluka and Ghodadara village in Hansot taluka came to a complete standstill. About 800 farmers from 7 villages impacted by the Bhabhut river barrage also stopped work at Koyli village.
The farmers in Ankleshwar have been protesting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious projects, namely, the bullet train, the expressway and the river barrage for the last two years alleging poor compensation for the land acquired for these projects.
The farmers had submitted a memorandum to the district collector in the middle of last week threatening that they would bring the work on all three projects to a halt if their demands were not met. DeshGujarat
