Several local females protested over the naming of the Naroda railway overbridge by surrounding BJP MLA from Naroda Balram Thawani.

Naroda railway overbridge will be dedicated by Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel tomorrow. The bridge became ready 4 months ago and its construction was ongoing for 3 years. It connects Naroda and Chiloda area. The controversy over naming of the bridge has been going on for the past few days.

People from the two communities, living beside two sides of the bridge, have demanded to name the bridge with the name of a saint belonging from their community. The population of dalit community is high near Naroda railway station area. They have demanded to name the bridge ‘Sant Shri Rohidas Overbridge’. On the other hand, Sindhi community demanded to name the bridge ‘Sadguru Swami Teuram Ji overbridge’. The locals from Sindhi community argued that their population is higher and they have been residing there for years. The name of the bridge was declared Sadguru Swami Teuram bridge in a standing committee of AMC a few days back. The dalit community had protested against the same.
