Farmer in Saurashtra harvesting electricity on 12 bighas of farmland

Jamkardona: A farmer at Umradi village in Jamkardona taluka of Saurashtra has found an innovative way of earning money from the 12 bighas of farmland he owns. Instead of conventional crops, Dilipbhai Markana is harvesting electricity on his farmland!

Dilipbhai has installed a solar plant of 2 Megawatt capacity on his plot of land at Umradi village, which produces 1,200 units of electricity per day. This electricity generated on his plot of land is supplied to the PGVCL substation. The quantity of power that is generated by Dilipbhai’s solar plant is enough to satisfy the needs of several nearby villages.

Dilipbhai says that he is making Rs 15 lakh each month from the electricity that he harvests on his plot of land. This works out to a profit of at least Rs 1.25 crore every year.

The plant was set up at a cost of Rs 10 crores and is manned by 5 people, including two engineers. It has over 360 solar panels, which are washed at an interval of every three days to ensure they generate a maximum amount of electricity. DeshGujarat
