Apart from the Summit, 190 meetings are also scheduled to be held across various parts of India during the 1 year when India will occupy the presidency of the G-20 grouping beginning December 1, 2022.
The Gujarat government is looking at the possibility of getting an opportunity to host some of the important G20 events of these 190 that are scheduled to be held during this 1-yr period.
A representative of the G-20 held a preliminary meeting with officials of the state government in this regard earlier this month.
A source expressed optimism that Gujarat may get the opportunity to organize prominent G-20 meetings such as the leaders’ conference or the minister-level conference.
The state government has chosen the industries and mines department as the nodal agency that will co-ordinate with the G-20 secretariat and Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, on all matters related to G-20 events.
Officials with a lot of experience in organizing the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit could be entrusted with the responsibility of acting as coordinators and nodal officers.
