Daegu: A high-level Gujarat government delegation led by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi arrived in South Korea after a successful visit to Japan as part of efforts to strengthen international partnerships ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, a press release said.
The delegation participated in the Gujarat-Korea Textile Industry Cooperation Roundtable at the Korea Textile Development Institute (KTDI) in Daegu, one of South Korea’s leading textile industry hubs, to explore investment opportunities and strengthen cooperation in textile machinery and fabric manufacturing.
Addressing the meeting, Sanghavi highlighted Gujarat’s position as a major textile manufacturing hub, with capabilities spanning the entire value chain, from cotton cultivation and spinning to denim, synthetic fabrics and finished garments.
“Textiles are woven into Gujarat’s identity. From cotton fields to spinning mills, and from Ahmedabad’s denim to Surat’s synthetic fabrics, Gujarat connects the entire value chain, from farm to fibre and factory to fashion, extending to foreign markets,” he said.
Sanghavi said Gujarat accounts for approximately one-third of India’s man-made fibre production and nearly 65% of the country’s denim production. He noted that South Korea’s expertise in advanced technology, high-performance materials and advanced fibres complements Gujarat’s manufacturing capacity and integrated supply chain, creating opportunities for collaboration in the global textile industry.
The Deputy Chief Minister also highlighted the upcoming PM MITRA textile park in Navsari, which is being developed across approximately 1,142 acres. The park is expected to bring spinning, weaving, processing, technical textiles and garment manufacturing under one integrated ecosystem.
He said the project could provide an attractive platform for South Korean companies looking to invest in Gujarat, supported by connectivity through Surat International Airport, Hazira Port and the Dedicated Freight Corridor.
“We are not here merely to extend a formal invitation to Korean entrepreneurs. We are keen to understand their requirements and explore meaningful partnerships. We invite them to visit Gujarat and work with us to build a new chapter in India-South Korea friendship through innovation and sustainable growth,” Sanghavi said.
The roundtable aimed to identify opportunities for technical exchange, business collaboration and investment between Gujarat and South Korea, particularly in textile machinery and fabric manufacturing.
Before the meeting, Sanghavi and the delegation visited KTDI’s research and development facilities, pilot facilities, and testing and analysis centre to gain insights into South Korea’s textile technology and research capabilities.
The programme began with a welcome address by Jae-young Park, president of Youngone Corporation. Nishikant Singh, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Seoul, delivered the opening remarks, highlighting trade and business relations between the two countries.
Mamata Verma, Additional Chief Secretary of Gujarat’s Industries and Mines Department, presented an overview of the state’s textile industry, infrastructure, business-friendly policies and investment opportunities for South Korean companies.
In his keynote address, Sanghavi invited leading textile and machinery manufacturers from Daegu to participate in the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit and explore investment opportunities and joint ventures in Gujarat. He said collaboration between Gujarat’s established textile ecosystem and South Korea’s advanced technologies could open new avenues for mutual growth.
The meeting also featured an interactive session with Korean textile machinery and fabric manufacturers, with discussions covering potential areas of cooperation and industry-specific requirements.
The Gujarat government delegation included Industries Commissioner P. Swaroop, Joint Secretary (Budget) in the Finance Department Arvind V., Joint Industries Commissioner Kanak Der, and Deputy Chief Minister’s Secretary Ashish Kumar, among other officials.
Representing South Korea, approximately 28 delegates participated in the roundtable, including representatives of Youngone Corporation and KTDI, eight textile machinery companies such as Mikwang, Ace, Samil, Wooyang and Ilsung, and four fabric manufacturing companies, including Haewon Trading, Bohyun Textile, Dongjin and Hyundai Chemical Fiber.
The discussions are part of Gujarat’s broader efforts to attract international investment, expand industrial partnerships and strengthen its position in global textile manufacturing ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit. DeshGujarat
