For Kutch, there is nothing more pleasing than arrival of Narmada water…

Bhuj: Kutch’s Kanthalpatt had been waiting since years for the arrival of Narmada waters. Setting to rest speculation and controversies, the Narmada Nigam released waters on a trial basis to reach Modkuba through the canal and water reached Piyava Vadi area, 40 kilometers away from Modkuba, by Wednesday afternoon.

As Narmada water reached the area for the first time, a large crowd gathered at the canal from Nani Khakhar to Rayan village. Joy was clearly visible on the faces of the farmers.

It would be worthwhile to mention here that work on the canal between Gundala and Bhujpur had come to a complete halt owing to the issue of compensation but after the matter got resolved work on the 8 km stretch of the canal was completed under police protection within just one month by Kutch’s Laxmi Construction Company.

The Narmada waters started flowing from this spot on Wednesday after the work was completed. Workers of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were present in large number to hail the arrival of the Narmada waters at Samaghogha village of Mandvi taluka. From Samaghogha, the Narmada waters reached Moti Rayan village, spreading joy amongst the villagers. At the time of filing of this report, water was strongly gushing forward through the canal from Koday village, which is about 40 kilometers away from Modkuba.

When Superintending Engineer of Narmada Nigam, SB Rao, was contacted to ask as to when Narmada water would reach Modkuba, he replied that the water is likely to reach there by today around midnight. DeshGujarat
