Tapi purification: 4 of 15 STPs ready, 50% work on 7 more completed

Surat: Out of the 15 sewage treatment plants (STPs) being developed as part of the Tapi Purification Project jointly executed by the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Surat Urban Development Authority (SUDA), four are fully ready whereas 50% work on another 7 has been completed, the municipal commissioner has informed.
According to the civic body’s commissioner, Banchanidhi Pani, the question of land acquisition for the sewage treatment plants needed as part of the Tapi Purification Project has been resolved.
Of the 15 new STPS proposed under this Tapi Purification project, 4 are being developed by SMC while the other 11 are being developed by SUDA. As many as 3 STPs under the SMC’s jurisdiction are ready while 50% of work on 7 of 11 proposed under SUDA has been completed.
It should be noted that as much as 370 MLD of polluted water used to be discharged into the Tapi river daily. The authorities have been able to divert as much as 150 MLD of it by developing the STPs.
