Reconstructed Khokhra bridge opens for traffic in a great relief to locals
August 09, 2022
Kankariya: Much awaited Khokhra bridge in the city was opened for traffic today evening by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Khokhra bridge had suffered damages about five years ago. A decision was then taken to dismantle it and go for its total reconstruction. The reconstruction of this 344 meter long bridge has been done at a cost of Rs. 75 crore. The reopening of this bridge has brought great relief to the citizens, especially those living in Kankariya, Maninagar, Khokhra, Amraiwadi etc areas. In absence of this bridge, the locals had to use alternate bridge which would often witness traffic jam, especially in peak hours. The reconstruction of this bridge was a challenging task, as it was atop the main railway lines that connect Ahmedabad to Mumbai. Dozens of goods and passenger trains pass through this route everyday. The construction had to be done in a fashion that crucial rail traffic don’t get disturbed. The core part of the bridge has been decorated with tricolor lights ahead of the Independence Day – 15th of August.
