Maruti Suzuki completes 40 years in India: PM to attend a function in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend a program to commemorate 40 years of Maruti Suzuki in India. The event will be held at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar on 28th August, 2022.The Prime Minister will be accompanied by Chief Minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel, senior officers from the government and Maruti Suzuki, along with industrialists.

Maruti Suzuki’s journey in Gujarat

It is worth mentioning here that Maruti Suzuki India Private Limited decided to set up its car manufacturing plant in Gujarat in 2011. Within a year, in 2012, it established its first plant at Hansalpur. The then Chief Minister and the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a number of incentives and an industrial friendly environment to the car manufacturing giant for ease of operations in Gujarat. The company, owing to the support from Modi to the current Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, has only strengthened its operations in Gujarat.

7.5 lakh cars are manufactured by Maruti Suzuki in Gujarat every year

The plant at Hansalpur has 3 manufacturing units. Together, they manufacture 7.5 lakh cars a year. The company has invested ₹16 thousand crores in the last decade in Gujarat owing to an industrial friendly environment , transparent policies and fast paced governance. There are over a 100 component suppliers who have established their units in Gujarat for providing various car parts of Maruti Suzuki. The investment of such units, according to data by Government of Gujarat, is nearly ₹7300 crore.

Investment of ₹10 thousand crore for EVs and Lithium Iron Batteries

Government of Gujarat announced a new EV policy a few months ago with a number of incentives and promotions for industrial players. The aim was to establish an EV ecosystem in Gujarat. Taking advantage of the policy, Maruti Suzuki will establish India’s first Lithium-Iron Battery Plant in Gujarat. Chairman of Maruti Suzuki India, Mr. C. R Bhargav said, “ The company will soon establish an EV manufacturing plant, battery manufacturing plant and an automative recycling facility at Mandal. The total investment will be ₹10 thousand crore.”

Gujarat leads India in manufacturing sector owing to the Double Engine Government

The state has benefitted a great deal in the industrial sector due to the Narendra Modi government at the Centre and the Bhupendra Patel government here. Within 8 years of Modi as the Prime Minster, Gujarat is India’s most industrialised state today. The state has received an investment worth ₹17.7 lakh crore in the last 8 years. This is 57% of ₹ 31.3 lakh crore, the total investment received in India. The state contributes 18% to India’s manufacturing sector, which is the highest by any state in India.

India’s first International Automobile Centre of Excellence (iACE) in Gujarat

The Government of Gujarat has undertaken a number of initiatives with Maruti Suzuki, on a PPP mode, to provide opportunities for skill development and employment. India’s first International Automobile Centre of Excellence has been established in Gandhinagar. 5000 engineers are trained every year. In addition, Japan India Institute of Manufacturing, industrial townships at Khoraj and Mandal-Bechraji are only accelerating industrial and skill development in Gujarat.
