Man from Amdavad returns home after spending 28 years in Pakistani jail

Ahmedabad: Kuldeep Yadav returned to his homeland after spending 28 years in Pakistan jail on the charges of espionage. Kuldeep who is now 59 was arrested by the Pakistani agencies in 1994 and awarded a life term by a court of a neighboring nation.

Yadav was welcomed home & was reunited with his sister and three brothers in Ahmedabad.

“I am relieved that I am back home. In 1992, I was sent to Pakistan, after serving for two years on foreign soil, I planned to return in June 1994, but before making it to my motherland, I was picked up by Pakistani agencies and produced before a court. Over the course of two years, I was interrogated by several agencies,” he said.

Kuldeep told the media that he has requested the government to provide him with financial assistance as he has served the county. Worried about the future he said that he is nearly 60 and no one would hire him.

“I don’t even have money to buy new clothes. What I am wearing is given to me by Pakistan,” Kuldeep said.
“For how long will I remain dependent on my brothers and sister? I appeal to the government to help me in my rehabilitation,” he added.

Yadav spent the majority of his jail term at Kot-Lakhpat jail, where he also met Sarabjit Singh of Punjab, who died there despite multiple attempts to bring him back. Yadav remembers the meeting with Singh and says ” I got a chance to meet late Sarbjeet, the jail authorities used to arrange meetings between us every fortnight.”
