Jamnagar: Radhe Krishna Temple Elephant Welfare Trust near Jamnagar looks after over 150 elephants including abandoned, injured, and aged elephants.

Radhe Krishna Temple Elephant Trust, located in Khavda was founded in 2013-14. The trust brings abandoned and injured elephants and takes care of them. The elephants are kept there after rescue and they are not used for circus and other activities. The trust gets help from Reliance. The 150 elephants are brought from various states such as Maharashtra, Karnataka, Asam, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, and so on.

The trust has developed a miyawaki jungle on over 500 acres of land. There are special tracks for the elephants to walk and graze. There are facilities such as fans, fountains, and accommodations for elephants. The place for the accommodation is covered with rubber floorings. There are 10 small ponds and 9 hydrotherapy pools on 100 acres of land. The hydrotherapy pools are useful for aged elephants and elephants suffering from arthritis.

There are many full-time and part-time veterinary doctors working at the trust. The elephants are also treated with Ayurvedic treatment. There are over 300 mahawat. Padma Shri Kushal Konwar Sharma, a renowned veterinarian also known as the ‘Elephant Man of India’ visits this place every month.

There is a hospital for elephants with facilities of endoscopy machines, surgery, CT scan, hydraulic crane, and so on.
