Junagadh: Bhesan town is on an indefinite strike from 28th September onwards to protest against the repeated police complaints under Atrocity Act against the local merchants filed by frivolous elements.

Over 800 merchants under the Bhesan Vepari Association gave a memorandum to the mamlatdar office in Bhesan. They stated that several persons file complaints against the merchants under Atrocity Act for their selfish motives and coughing up money.

The traders alleged that the local police also support such persons and falsely file the Atrocity Act complaints without investigation under the pressure of such persons. The traders demanded in the memorandum to conduct fair investigation regarding the complaints and make amendments in the Atrocity Act as it is being widely misused.

Bhesan town will remain closed till the issue is not resolved, the traders said. The leaders of various political parties, merchants and locals will be on a hunger strike. The merchants will be on hunger strike in front of the mamlatdar office today and keep their trades closed.
