United Nations Secretary-General visits Modhera Sun Temple

Gandhinagar: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited the famous Sun Temple in Modhera, Gujarat today. He was fascinated with the beauty of the Sun Temple and to know the fact that the people of Modhera village generate their total electricity through solar energy.

In the visitor’s note, Mr Guterres wrote that, “Sun is life. It is the origin of all things. I pay my respects to all those who built this Sun Temple thousands of years ago. Through using solar energy around this temple dedicated to Sun, people connect human life with nature.”

The UN Secretary-General interacted with the localites to understand how their energy requirements are being met through solar energy. He lauded the entire project and congratulated the state government for successfully implementing the solar rooftop project at Modhera.

The UN Secretary-General and his team were on a two-day visit to Gujarat. They met the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on the premises of the World’s Tallest Statue – The Statue of Unity during this tour. Chief Minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel and officials from the United Nations and the Government of India were also present during the meeting.
