People face problems as Hatkeshwar Bridge closed since 4 months
January 07, 2023
Ahmedabad: The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Bridge, one of the busiest bridges on the eastern side of Ahmedabad, was closed to commuters in August as the road caved in. Even after four months, the repair work is not complete.
According to the information, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Bridge of Hatkeshwar was built in 2016. Since then, six gaps have fallen around and above this bridge. There have been incidents of frequent cave-in falling in the same place.
Before the cave-in that occurred in August, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) decided to complete the work of the bridge for ₹ 90 lakhs in 40 days in the standing committee meeting on 25 August 2022. Although more than 4 months have passed since that meeting, the work has not yet been completed.
AMC officials are talking about changing the design of the bridge. 3 experts have been assigned to survey the bridge. Soon they will prepare and submit the survey report. After which the bridge work will be started. However, no clarification has been made as to when the bridge work will be completed and when people will get relief.
As the bridge appeared to be weak, iron supports have been installed under the bridge by the administration. But people fear that the bridge may collapse anytime and will cause a major disaster.
Because of this, questions were raised about the functioning of the system. People are alleging that cracks and gaps have occurred in the bridge because it was built using inferior-quality materials and their tax money has been wasted on corruption.
Even though the lives of motorists are in danger, the work of the bridge is negligent. DeshGujarat
