Gujarat Govt gears up to allocate land for 2036 Olympics athlete village

Gandhinagar: The state administration of Gujarat is determined to win the bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games. In a step toward that goal, the state government has started allocating 500 acres of land for the athletes’ village.

Allocation of the land will shortly start in the Sabarmati, Sughad and Bhat areas of the city as they are in close proximity to Sardar Patel Sports Complex at Motera.

If the sources are to be believed, 70 acres of land under GIDC will be allocated for this purpose in Sughad and Bhat. 65 acres of land belonging to Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited will also be used. With some land under AMC, the government will also embark on 235 acres and 110 acres of its land near the power plant for this purpose.

The sources privy to the development told the media that more than 20000 athletes will be housed in this athlete village near Sardar Patel Sports complex. To make sure that the project is designed and developed to world standards an international consultant will be appointed.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah was briefed about these projects in a meeting attended by Gujarat CM, Sports Minister Harsh Sanghavi and top officials on Sunday evening.

Other than Sardar Patel Sports enclave, a new sports complex is also coming up in Naranpura, which will also host Olympic events. DeshGujarat
