Gandhinagar: Construction of the runway for the Dholera International Airport Project has commenced, approximately nine months after approval from the Union cabinet committee, said the sources in the state government.
This new greenfield airport, located 103km from Ahmedabad, will be the city’s second international airport. To oversee the project, a joint venture company named Dholera International Airport Company Limited (DIACL) has been formed, with equity held by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the Government of Gujarat (GoG), and the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) in a ratio of 51:33:16, respectively.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 1,305 crore, and it is expected to be completed within four years. The airport is located 80km from Ahmedabad, and a senior official from Dholera Special Investment Regional Development Authority (DSIRDA) has suggested that it may be ready for commercial use by the 2025-26 fiscal year.
