Surat: The police found an old woman beggar in Surat to be a citizen of Bangladesh, who arrived in India on the basis of one-year multiple visa.
A team of SOG detained a 63-year-old woman named Malekabegam alias Malika Seken Sardar on Wednesday evening for begging near Khwajadana Dargah. After an inquiry, the police found that she had a passport from Bangladesh and had entered India on a one-year multiple visa. The police also found an Indian Aadhar card on her.
The inquiry revealed that Malika had illegally entered India in 2020 and had managed to obtain a fake birth certificate with the help of an agent to obtain an Indian Aadhar card. The police charged her with possessing bogus documents. She had also received a COVID-19 vaccine using the Aadhar card.
Malika had been living in Surat and begging since illegally entering India. She used to earn Rs. 700 to 1000 daily. After collecting some money she returned to her native Gopalpur in the Gopalganj district, Bangladesh in July 2022 for a few days. There she obtained an official passport from Bangladesh in September, allowing her to enter India with one-year multiple visa. DeshGujarat
