Gujarat joins nationwide drill to assess preparedness against Covid-19

Gandhinagar: Amid the surge in Coronavirus cases in the state, a two-day mock drill started on Monday as part of a nationwide effort to evaluate the emergency preparedness of both public and private hospitals. The mock drill will continue on Tuesday and is being held in numerous public and private healthcare facilities across India.

The mock drill is being carried out in 9,231 sub-health centres, 1,475 primary health centres, 356 community health centres, civil hospitals, and private hospitals at rural and urban levels in Gujarat.

Over 1,03,000 beds are available in government and private hospitals for covid-19 in the state, including 15,000 ICU and 9,700 ventilator beds. There are 10,899 oxygen concentrator machines and 476 PSA plants.


Around 20 to 22 thousand covid-19 tests are conducted daily in the state. Approval has been given to 207 laboratories for covid-19 testing, including 111 government and 96 private laboratories. Their daily testing capacity is 1,25,000. There is a capacity of conducting over 4,000 genome sequencing tests every month at Gandhinagar.

The mock drills were carried out across the country with Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya visiting Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital to inspect the mock drill in the national capital of Delhi. Meanwhile, State Health Minister Rushikesh Patel also visted Gandhinagar Civil Hopital to review the Covid-19 preparedness. DeshGujarat
