KS Jhaveri Commission hand over report on OBC reservation in local bodies

Gandhinagar: Retired Justice KS Jhaveri handed over the report of an independent commission formed by the State government to decide the percentage of reserved seats for the Other Backward Class (OBC) in the local bodies of self-governance.
The commission was formed as per the Supreme Court directive to decide local body-wise reservations. The elections for 7100 Panchayats, 75 Municipalities, 2 District Panchayats, and 18 Taluka Panchayats are pending over this issue and the Government has appointed administrators in these bodies. On the basis of the report, the State government will take a decision on the percentage of reserved seats for OBC communities. At present OBC reservation is 10 percent while Schedule Caste reservation is 7 percent and Schedule Tribe 14 percent. DeshGujarat
