April 24, 2023
Sabarmati: A barrage-cum-bridge made of rubber structure will be built at a cost of Rs. 250 crore between Torrent Powerhouse on the west bank of Sabarmati and Sadar Bajar on the east bank of the river.
The barrage-cum-bridge will be built as part of the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Phase 2 scheme. The bridge will be capable of preserving water sufficient for 12 to 15 days and will connect the east and west banks of the Sabarmati River.
The riverfront company has prepared a hydraulic report on the technical aspects of the barrage project and has sent it to the National Institute of Hydraulics in Roorkee, Uttarakhand. The bridge will be designed not to be affected in case of a flood and will be directly connected to Sabarmati, Chandkheda, Motera, and Hansol.
Ultrasonic sensors will be used to measure the variation in the water level, and the deflection valve will withdraw the air in the rubber dam in case of a flood. DeshGujarat
