–  The Gujarat govt has released a new set of guidelines for invoking the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA). The guidelines ask officials not to invoke the law without proper verification and based on a single offence. The High Court has ordered the government to issue another circular, asking officials to strictly comply with the guidelines, and officials found violating them will face the court’s action.

– After receiving a notice from the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB), the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to install valves at Chandkheda and Motera, costing around Rs 40 lakh, to prevent sewage water from being dumped into the Sabarmati River. However, GPCB sources have pointed out that installing valves alone will not suffice, and illegal connections must also be cut.

– Students will get the marksheets for their Class 12 science stream and GujCET 2023 exam on May 12, announced the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB). The board will dispatch the marksheets to district education officers on May 10, who will then send them to the schools on May 11 for distribution to the students the next day.

– The Gujarat High Court dismissed the petition of the accused, Malav Mehta, who had challenged a lower court order sending him to police remand for his involvement in a bribery case. He is accused of aiding the deposit of Rs 30 lakh in bribe money related to Santosh Karnani, the Additional Income Tax Commissioner in Ahmedabad.

– A study has found that Gujarat generated the third-highest amount of biomedical waste during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, but had the sharpest decline of 71% in 2021. The state produced an average of 14.71 tonnes of biomedical waste per day, according to the study. It was found that Maharashtra had the highest mean biomedical waste generation at 25.75 tonnes per day.

– The town planning committee of the AMC has decided to conduct an inspection of percolation wells constructed in the past year to ensure their functionality. There are a total of 1,404 new percolation wells, with 558 located in the North West Zone, 121 in the South West Zone, 181 in the West Zone, 24 in the Central Zone, 130 in the North Zone, 232 in the East Zone, and 158 in the South Zone.

– Police personnel with more than two children will not have access to the police welfare fund. This fund is under the jurisdiction of the DGP (Police Reforms); however, their children can participate in all activities organised with the help of the police welfare department. The decision is taken to help family planning and bring about reforms, said Anil Pratham, DGP (Police Reforms).
