Botad: A 28-year-old individual named Kalu Usman Padharsi died while undergoing treatment at Ahmedabad’s Civil Hospital on Sunday. It is alleged that he was subjected to torture by three policemen at the Botad Town police station in Bhavnagar district.
As per Kalu’s father, Usman, his son was detained on April 14 by three policemen identified as Amiraj Boricha, Nikul Sindhav, and Rahi Sidatara. Consequently, he was physically assaulted on the spot, taken to the Botad Town Police Station, subjected to further violence with sticks, and had his head forcefully struck against a wall.
On April 17, Kalu complained of a headache and underwent two surgeries at a hospital in Botad. However, when his family attempted to file a complaint with the police, their request was reportedly denied. Frustrated by the lack of response, Kalu’s family submitted a petition to the Gujarat High Court, seeking action against the implicated policemen.
According to Botad Superintendent of Police Kishor Baloliya, Kalu experienced health complications on the evening of April 17, three days after his release. Despite outwardly appearing fine and resuming his regular activities, Kalu’s parents claim that he was assaulted by the policemen, resulting in his hospitalization. An investigation into the incident has been initiated.
Meanwhile, the Gujarat High Court issued an interim order in response to the family’s plea, directing the Superintendent of Police to retrieve CCTV footage from the police station as well as the two hospitals where Kalu received medical treatment. DeshGujarat
