Stray dogs caught up in cage setup for capturing leopard in Valsad
June 19, 2023
Valsad: Stray dogs were caught in a cage that was set up to capture a leopard in Mograwadi village of Valsad district in South Gujarat.
The Forest Department had placed cages at three locations in Nanakwada and Mograwadi areas in Valsad to capture a leopard that was on the move. A hen was used as bait inside the cage to lure the leopard. However, two stray dogs mistakenly entered the cage in Mograwadi upon seeing the hen. They caught up inside the cage. People in the vicinity gathered after hearing the dogs barking. The Forest Department removed the dogs from the cage and set it up again to capture the panther.
The incident indicated that the stray dog menace has entered very far-flung areas too. If dogs are going to enter the cage for bait arranged for leopard, it would be difficult for forest department to capture menacing laopards.
