ABVP conducts cleaning campaign on Rath Yatra route in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: The 146th Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath is taking place in Ahmedabad today. Thousands of devotees have joined the Rath Yatra, and the procession is progressing slowly. However, there is visible litter along the Rath Yatra route. To tackle this issue, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) arm Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has initiated a cleaning campaign. Student council workers are volunteering to clean the route as the chariots pass by.

Since 2019, ABVP workers through their arm Students for Seva(SFS)  have been organizing a clean-up campaign during the Rath Yatra. Whenever the procession moves along the route, the Student Council workers clear the litter. This campaign was carried out in 2019 and 2022 as well. Due to the pandemic, the Rath Yatra couldn’t be held in 2020 and 2021, and hence the cleaning campaign couldn’t take place. This year, as the Rath Yatra is being held, the youth are cleaning the road after the procession has passed. Videos and photos show young individuals using brooms to clean the Rath Yatra route.

Umang Mojidra, an ABVP leader, emphasized that cleaning up garbage is a moral responsibility, motivating the Vidyarthi Parishad activists to carry out this campaign since 2019. They willingly take up brooms and clean the litter without any hesitation. More than 150 workers have joined this year’s campaign, cleaning the Rath Yatra route as the chariot moves forward.
