Surat: Cyber crime police busted a scam of passing the GRE exam for studies in the USA in exchange for Rs 70 thousand per candidate in Surat.

Maulik Makwana, a student at Gujarat College in Ahmedabad and residing in Bapunagar, aspired to pursue further studies in the USA. To achieve this goal, passing the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) exam was a mandatory requirement. During a Google search, he came across a website called Voice Immigration India and contacted Sagar Hirani, the person responsible for handling GRE exam-related matters.

Sagar Hirani assured Maulik that they could guarantee his success in the exam in exchange for Rs 70,000. He claimed that they could help Maulik achieve a score of 315 out of the total 340 marks. Sagar requested an advance payment of Rs 19,000 and asked Maulik to bring Rs 50,000 in cash on the day of the exam. Maulik transferred the requested amount of Rs 19,000 for the exam and received an appointment letter from Sagar.

Maulik was instructed to appear for the exam at Balwas Hotel in Surat. However, upon reaching there, Maulik discovered that Sagar intended to help him pass the exam by having his accomplices write the answers on his behalf. Maulik’s role was merely to act as if he were typing on the laptop, while the actual answers would be written by another person who had gained access to the laptop through Bluetooth.

Realizing the fraudulent scheme, Maulik immediately informed the cybercrime police and accompanied them to the exam venue. The police successfully nabbed two suspects, namely Sagar Hirani and Charla Maheshwara Reddy, at the scene.
