MoU signed for construction of Navy gallery at National Maritime Heritage Complex in Lothal

Gandhinagar: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Indian Port Rail and Ropeway Corporation, representing the government, and the Indian Navy pertaining to the construction of a gallery within the National Maritime Heritage Complex, focusing on the theme of the “Evolution of the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard.”

The MoU was signed during the high-level meeting that took place to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC), which will be established in Lothal.

The purpose of the MoU, as stated in a government release, is to facilitate the planning, development, construction, and commissioning of the gallery.

The signing of the MoU occurred in the presence of several notable individuals, including Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Bhupendra Patel, the Chief Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister of Health, Family Welfare, and Chemical & Fertilisers, Shripad Yesso Naik, the Minister of State for Ports, Shantanu, the Minister of State for Ports, as well as senior officers from the Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy.

The NMHC project, which falls under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, is being constructed with an investment of Rs 4,500 crore. Its foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2019. The complex will encompass various attractions such as a maritime museum, a lighthouse museum, maritime theme parks, amusement park centers, and more. Its purpose is to exhibit the maritime heritage of India, spanning from ancient times to the present.
