A cattle grazer boy saved by his buffalos from lion attack in rural Junagadh

Junagadh: A teenage boy was attacked and injured by a lion while grazing his cattle in Visavadar Taluka. However, when the boy was attacked by the lion, his buffaloes came to his rescue, chasing away the lion and protecting him from further harm.

According to the incident, Vikram Chawda, a 15-year-old son of Jetabhai Karabhai, was out grazing his cattle next to Kundiwala village at around 11 am on Friday. While grazing, one of his buffaloes gave birth to a calf. Vikram placed the calf on his shoulder and continued grazing. However, he was attacked from behind by a lion, resulting in injuries. As the lion attacked the teenager, the buffaloes chased the lion and drove it away to protect the calf and the boy.

Due to the commotion, forest staff arrived at the scene and transported the boy to the health centre in Visavadar. He received around fifteen stitches on his hip and back. The officials have referred him to Junagadh civic hospital for further treatment.

Deputy Conservator of Forest (DCF) Gir (West) Prashant Tomar informed that Vikram, with his livestock, was in proximity to a location where a lion and lioness were engaged in mating. Unfortunately, the boy was unexpectedly attacked by the lion from behind after their presence disturbed the mating activity. DeshGujarat
