UCC does not target Muslims, political parties should support it: Ramdas Athawale
July 13, 2023
Ahmedabad: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale, emphasized during his visit to Ahmedabad that the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) would not harm the interests of Muslims, Dalits, Hindus, or tribal communities. Instead, he highlighted the need for the UCC to ensure communal harmony in the country.
Athawale addressed the media after a review meeting focused on schemes aimed at promoting social justice and empowerment for marginalized sections of society. He dismissed the concerns raised by the opposition as false propaganda, asserting that the UCC is crucial for fostering unity and harmony between Hindus and Muslims. Furthermore, he emphasized that the proposed law does not target any particular community, including tribals, Dalits, Hindus, or Muslims. Athawale called upon political parties to support the UCC instead of using it as a political tool. He cited B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, as a supporter of the UCC.
The minister criticized the Congress party for spreading baseless rumors about the BJP and its government intending to amend the Constitution. Athawale expressed confidence in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), predicting that they would secure over 325 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, with Narendra Modi being elected as Prime Minister for a third consecutive term.
