IMD’s very heavy rain Red Alert for Gujarat for July 22nd : Live Updates

10:00 pm — NDRF conducted rescue and evacuation operations in the flood-hit Motibag area of Junagadh today from 4.50 pm to 8.40 pm. They successfully rescued four individuals and evacuated 54 others.

The rescued individuals are as follows:

  1. Dilipbhai Barsang – Male – 50
  2. Bhartiben Dilipbhai – Female – 45
  3. Rahul Dilipbhai – Male – 18
  4. Madhuben Rameshbhai – 60

9:30 pm — Rainfall is occurring since evening in Ahmedabad. The highest rainfall is reported in Bopal, while the lowest is recorded in Ramol. Bopal is the westernmost part of the city, and Ramol is the easternmost. Rain is still falling in some parts of the city, causing water logging in low-lying areas and leading to traffic jams during peak hours.


9:00 pm — Gujarat Chief Minister held a meeting at the State Emergency Operation Centre in the capital Gandhinagar with officials including the Collector of flood-hit Junagadh, and district administrations of Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Rajkot etc through Video conferencing

8:30 pm — Rainfall has eased post 6 pm in flood-hit Junagadh city and district. Ahmedabad city received around 4 inches of rain in just 2 hours post 6 pm today. 12 gates of Vasna barrage on Sabarmati River were opened from 7 pm following universal rain in Ahmedabad city. 33,660 cusecs of water is released into Sabarmati River said the government.

The Chief Minister wanted to visit Junagadh from Rajkot but neither road nor helicopter journey was possible. He cut short the programs in Rajkot and rushed to the State capital to take stock of the situation of flood in Junagadh, stated Gujarat agriculture minister Raghavji Patel


A person who had drowned in the Junagadh flood earlier today, and whose video had gone viral, has reportedly been rescued later.

 

7:00 pm —Due to heavy rain in the city, Amdavad Municipal Corporation has announced the closure of five underpasses for this evening.

6:30 pm — The latest table of rainfall today as of 6 pm shows that parts of flood-hit Junagadh districts such as Mendarda, Visavdar, Keshod, and Vanthali continuing to receive heavy rains while rain fury has gone down in Junagadh taluka and city in the last two hours. Navsari and Jalalpore top the chart today in the State.

6 pm — Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will reach the State Emergency Operation Center, Sector 19 in State capital Gandhinagar at 6.45 pm to review the situation arising following the heavy rains in Junagadh district and will take stock of the situation through video conference with the Junagadh District Collector.

5:30 pm — In the latest IMD bulletin, a Red Alert has been issued for Kutch, Jamnagar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Junagadh, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra Nagar Haveli. These districts are very likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall (more than 8 inches) from today until tomorrow morning.

However, an orange warning is issued for Anand, Vadodra, Bharuch, Narmada, Tapi, Dangs, Porbandar, Rajkot, Botad, Bhavnagar, Amreli, Gir Somnath.

4:30 pm — Incessant extremely heavy rainfall continues in several parts of Gujarat. Navsari has received the maximum rainfall in the state, with up to 11.9 inches of rain. However, in the last 2 hours from 2 pm to 4 pm, Junagadh (rural) and Junagadh city taluka received 5.2 inches of rain, while up to 8.6 inches of rain has been recoded in the city since sunrise. Karjan taluka in Vadodara also received around 2.8 inches of rain during this period. Bhavnagar and Surat are the other two districts that have received more than 2 inches of rain in just 2 hours.

4 pm — Moderate to heavy rain/ thundershowers (≥ 15 mm /hr) are very likely in the districts of Gujarat state namely Banaskantha, Anand, Bharuch, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Botad, and Diu during next 3 hours.

Light to Moderate rain/thundershowers (5-15 mm/hr) are very likely in the districts of Gujarat state namely Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadara Nagar Haveli and Kutch during next 3 hours.

3:30 pm — Heavy rains are lashing several parts of Gujarat, especially in South Gujarat areas. Navsari received up to 11.9 inches (303 mm) of rain during the 8 hours since sunrise. Khambhalia of Devbhumi Dwarka witnessed 6.8 inches of rain in 4 hours from 10 am to 2 pm. Surat district has received up to 3.5 inches of rain, and Bhavnagar witnessed around 3.9 inches of rain in some places. A total of 27 Talukas have received more than one inch of rain today.

 

Heavy rains in Navsari have caused significant losses to people, due to massive waterlogging and a wall collapse in the city, crushing parked cars alongside it.

1 pm — IMD has issued a fisherman warning along the Gujarat coast, and fishermen are advised against venturing into the sea from July 22 to 26. Due to active monsoon, squally weather with wind speeds of 40-45 kmph is very likely to prevail.

The North Gujarat coast (Jakhau, Mandvi (Kutch), Mundra, New Kandla, Navlakhi, Jamnagar, Salaya, Okha, Porbandar) and South Gujarat coast (Mul Dwarka, Veraval, Diu, Jafrabad, Pipavav, Victor, Bhavnagar, Alang, Bharuch, Dahej, Magdalla, Daman) are affected.

12: 30 pm — As per the latest data, Navsari taluka witnessed extremely heavy rainfall in just two hours today and received up to 10 inches of rain. It was closely followed by Jalapore taluka of the same district, which got 5.7 inches of rain between 10 am to 12 noon. Mahuav district of Surat has received up to 2.2 inches of rain during this time. Twenty-one talukas of the state have received more than an inch of rain since this morning.

12 noon — As per the latest bulletin by IMD, Heavy to Very heavy rains at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls are very likely in the districts of Valsad, Navsari, Surat, Daman Dadra Nagar Haveli, Jamnagar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, and Kutch during the next 24 hours.

10 am — The monsoon is currently very active over the state of Gujarat, bringing heavy to very heavy downpours in the state. According to data, the State Emergency Operation Centre in Gandhinagar Khergam Taluka of Navsari has received a maximum rainfall of 5.8 inches from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. today. Another taluka, Gandevi of Navsari, received around 3.5 inches of rain during this period. Navsari and Valsad districts have seen around 2 to 6 inches of rain in just two hours, causing water logging in some low-lying areas. Vadodara also received around half an inch of rain in just two hours, which caused short-term flooding in some low-lying areas.

The downpour, which occurred at 2 o’clock in the night, led to extensive flooding across Vadodara and its surrounding areas. As a consequence, traffic came to a standstill, leaving commuters and travellers stuck in their vehicles for hours.

A Red Alert has been issued for Valsad, Bhavnagar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Daman, and Dadra Nagar Haveli.

An Orange Alert is issued for Ahmedabad, Anand, Bharuch, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Amreli, Jamnagar, Gir Somnath, and Kutch.

A Yellow Alert is issued for Surendranagar, Dahod, Junagadh, Rajkot, Botad, Vadodara, Surat, and Navsari.
