Surat: The city crime branch police apprehended Jinendra Shah, a resident of Ahmedabad, on charges of attempting to extort Rs 8 crore from Gujarat BJP president and Navsari MP, C R Paatil.
Sunny Thakor, the Surat BJP Yuva Morcha secretary, filed a complaint on July 24, stating that Shah had circulated a video on social media to defame C R Paatil and the BJP by making allegations of corruption amounting to Rs 80 crore. This video tarnished the image of both Paatil and the BJP. Shah demanded Rs 8 crore as a commission to refrain from defaming Paatil.
Shah is booked under IPC sections 384, 500, and other relevant sections for extortion and defamation. Following his arrest, the police presented him in a Surat court, which granted a three-day police remand.
According to Thakor’s FIR, he received a video on WhatsApp in which Jinendra Shah made allegations of corruption against C R Paatil amounting to Rs 80 crore. Thakor further mentioned in the FIR that Shah uploaded the video to defame Paatil and the party, using it for political purposes and to incite people. DeshGujarat
