“Unintentional” marijuana growth found in AMC Nursery in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: A marijuana plant was discovered growing within a nursery operated by the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) near Vijay Crossroads on Tuesday.

This comes just a day after two similar plants were found in the Gujarat University hostel campus, which is only a kilometer away from Vijay Crossroads.

Jignesh Patel, AMC’s parks and gardens department head, suggested that cannabis seeds might have arrived accidentally via soil from different places or bird droppings, resulting in their growth. He affirmed that there was no intentional cultivation of cannabis in the nursery.

A nursery worker also said that the cannabis plants were not deliberately planted. He claimed that the soil they use is sourced from the riverbed and is naturally rich in nutrients and cannabis seeds might have accompanied the soil. He also noted that a cannabis plant emerges from the soil roughly every couple of months.

One day prior to this, NSUI and Youth Congress members stumbled upon two cannabis plants behind the D block of Gujarat University’s hostel campus. The plants, measuring 6.5 feet and 4.5 feet, were confiscated by Gujarat University police.

Furthermore, on April 13, a significant discovery was made on the Marwadi University campus along the Rajkot-Morbi Road, where a total of 23 cannabis plants with an estimated market value of Rs 80,000 were found growing. DeshGujarat
