Gujarat govt sets up SPV for 2036 Olympics bid
August 11, 2023
Ahmedabad: The state government is preparing to express interest in hosting the 2036 Olympics in Ahmedabad.
The Expression of Interest (EoI) will be submitted to the International Olympics Association to strongly advocate for Ahmedabad as the host city. This proposal will be presented at the IOA meeting in Mumbai next month, highlighting Ahmedabad’s infrastructure potential to bolster its candidacy.
A dedicated entity, “Gujarat Olympics Planning and Infrastructure Corporation Ltd,” has been formed to outline the roadmap towards 2036, focusing on developing the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave and required facilities. The decision to establish the SPV was made during the inaugural meeting of the advisory council and executive council dedicated to the Olympics, attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur (participating virtually from Delhi), and senior officials. Chief Minister Patel emphasized that hosting the Olympics in India would spur economic growth nationwide. DeshGujarat
