Passenger movement in cabin brings Pavagadh ropeway to a standstill

Panchmahal: The Pavagadh ropeway unexpectedly came to a halt for approximately 30 minutes on Friday evening when its sensors detected abnormal cabin movement, prompting an automatic stoppage.

The ropeway serves as transportation for pilgrims from Maachi on the hill to the Mahakali Mandir. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m., with an estimated 25 to 30 passengers aboard the cable cars travelling from the temple towards Maachi. It is learned that the movement irregularity resulted from a passenger standing up inside one of the cabins near tower five of the ropeway, triggering the sensor and leading to a halt. It took around 25 to 30 minutes for technicians to reach the tower on foot and then ascend it to reset the sensors.

“We consistently made announcements to prevent passenger panic until the sensors were recalibrated and the ropeway was operational again,” stated Deepak Kaplish, the assistant vice president of Usha Breco Ltd., the company responsible for operating the ropeway. He added that the ropeway is in sturdy condition and is set to resume operations on Saturday morning as scheduled. DeshGujarat
