Multilevel parking facility opens at Sabarmati Riverfront for 1700 vehicles near Atal Bridge
September 07, 2023
Sabarmati: A multilevel parking facility located opposite Atal Bridge and Flower Park on the Sabarmati Riverfront in the city was inaugurated today. The Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation (SRFDCL) has constructed an eight-story (including basement), multilevel parking facility at a cost of Rs. 60 crore. The multilevel parking lot will open to citizens starting on Friday, September 8.
A small overpass has also been constructed to provide direct access to the Attal Bridge ticket office area from the parking lot, enabling people to park their vehicles and easily reach the Atal Bridge.
I.K. Patel, Executive Director of the SRFDCL, stated that the corporation has constructed multilevel parking on the riverfront, capable of accommodating 1,000 two-wheelers and 700 four-wheelers. Additionally, a Sky Walk has been built to provide visitors with direct access to the Sabarmati Event Centre from the parking lot.
The corporation will oversee the operation of the multilevel parking on a pilot basis. The parking rates have been set at Rs. 10 for two-wheelers and Rs. 20 for four-wheelers for the first two hours. For a duration of two to four hours, two-wheelers will be charged Rs. 20, and four-wheelers Rs. 40. For parking exceeding four hours, two-wheelers will be charged Rs. 30, and four-wheelers Rs. 50. This multilevel parking has been designed to ensure that visitors to the event centre and the riverfront encounter no parking difficulties, thereby minimizing traffic congestion.
Upon entering the multilevel parking facility with a vehicle, a ticket with a QR code will be issued to each person. Payment machines are available on each floor, allowing users to scan their QR code ticket and make their payment there. The machine will display the parking duration and the corresponding payment amount, along with the remaining balance.
The Sabarmati Riverfront Events Centre and Grounds host numerous major events each month, often leading to parking issues. This new facility will now solve that problem. This facility can accommodate 1,700 vehicles, including both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, with space for 170 vehicles in the basement. Special parking arrangements have also been made for SVP Hospital, with a separate parking lot designated for hospital staff and a portion of the basement allocated for this purpose, along with a separate area for ambulance parking that can accommodate up to six ambulances.
The Sabarmati Riverfront Multilevel Parking has two entrances, allowing vehicles to enter from both the Atal Bridge gate at the west end of the riverfront and the VS Crematorium. LED screens are positioned near the entrances and building, displaying information about available parking spaces on all floors of the parking facility. Elevator facilities are provided on every floor, from the basement to the 7th floor. CCTV cameras are installed on each floor, covering entry and exit points, ensuring security and monitoring for any unauthorized activity.
An automatic electronic display system is available on each floor and at entry points to show the available parking spaces. The automatic sensor system on the display will indicate the location where the vehicle is parked. Each floor also features an E-Zone for electric vehicle charging. Automatic sensors are installed at the entry and exit points of the multilevel parking, ensuring that vehicles can only exit after being verified by the automatic sensor system. DeshGujarat
