Share only last 4 digits of Aadhaar number when needed: Gujarat Govt
September 20, 2023
Gandhinagar: In order to safeguard public funds from the remote misuse of the Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS), a notification has been issued, advising against the inclusion of Aadhaar numbers for the involved parties (signer, receiver, and identifier) in documents submitted for registration at Sub Registrar offices. This guidance has been provided by the Chief Inspector of Registration and Superintendent of Stamps in Gandhinagar.
The Chief Inspector of Registration has informed the public that Aadhaar numbers should not be mentioned in documents submitted for registration at Sub-Registrar offices unless absolutely necessary. In such cases, only the last four digits of the Aadhaar number should be used, and the first eight digits should be replaced with asterisks (** **) for privacy.
He further explained that a copy of the Aadhaar card should still be produced at the Sub Registrar’s office as proof of identity for all parties involved in the document (signer, receiver, and identifier). However, instead of attaching the Aadhaar card to the document, it should be maintained as a separate record in the office. This ensures that while Aadhaar cards can still be used as proof of identity, they will not become a permanent part of the public record when documents are registered at the Sub Registrar’s office.
