September 22, 2023
Ahmedabad: Two students of LD Engineering College in the Navrangpura area, approached police alleging that they were attacked by three autorickshaw drivers at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport. It is alleged that they were attacked because they booked a cab instead of choosing an autorickshaw.
According to the complaint, two Bangladeshi students, Aditya Dey and Sourav Kumar, arrived at the international terminal of SVPI airport at around 3 am to pick up a fellow student from Zambia, Justin Kangwa. Kangwa’s flight landed around 4 am. During this waiting period, they inquired about the availability of cabs to return to their hostel on the LD Engineering College campus.
At this point, three autorickshaw drivers approached them, questioning their choice to book a cab when autorickshaws were readily available. In an attempt to avoid a confrontation, Dey and Kumar attempted to leave the scene with Kangwa. However, one of the autorickshaw drivers engaged in a heated argument with them, leading to an alleged physical assault on Dey and Kumar. According to Dey, the accused broke his spectacles and issued threats. The intervention of airport security personnel eventually enabled the three students to leave the situation.
Subsequently, Dey submitted an application at the Airport police station, although as of Thursday evening, it had not yet been converted into a formal FIR(as of Friday evening). DeshGujarat
