Gandhinagar: A superintendent Engineer in Road and Building (R&B) department working in Ahmedabad has been suspended with immediate effect after his spat with the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) during the coordination meeting chaired by the district collector to discuss the issues of public interests.

A coordination meeting of city and district MLAs was called by district collector in which Dariyapur MLA had raised the issue of pending construction of Talati office in his constituency area. To this, the official responsible, MB Bhatt gave vague replies following which, another MLA Amit P Shah from Ellis bridge suggested that whatever are the administrative obstructions should be revealed and a time limit should be given by the official for completion of Talati office. To this, officer MB Bhatt gave rough reply insulting the MLA.

All participating in the meeting including the district collector were shocked. The district collector expressed her regret over such behavior by an official. The MLAs participating in this meeting decided to write to the Chief Minister regarding this and pressed for suspension of the officer. The MLAs opined that if an officer behaves in this fashion with MLAs within the meeting called by the district collector, then what could be the level of his behavior with common citizens to whom he is responsible.

The Chief Minister sought report from the district collector regarding this. After due communication, the Chief Minister decided to suspend the officer with immediate effect.
