Video of students offering namaz near Shiv temple on MS University campus goes viral

Vadodara: Controversy has erupted at MS University here as a video showing three students offering Namaz in front of the Lord Shiva mandir located near the Faculty of Commerce building has gone viral. This is not the first such incident of Namaz being offered on the campus, earlier also, similar videos had gone viral, and it too had created controversy.

The video capturing three students performing Namaz near the Mahadev Temple within the university’s Commerce Faculty at 4:45 p.m. has stirred up considerable discussion. It has been learned that these students are from the Faculty of Commerce and are in their first year of B.Com.

In response to this incident, Lakulish Trivedi, the PRO of MS University, has announced that a high-powered committee of the university will be convened to summon the students and make a decision.

Talking about the incident, Shiv Sena spokesperson Deepak Palkar expressed deep concern and criticised the university’s vice chancellor, accusing them of passivity. He called for strict action against those involved and stressed that this marks the third such incident. Palkar recommended the implementation of an undertaking letter during the admission process, outlining that engagement in such activities would lead to immediate expulsion from the college. As of now, no such circular in this matter has been issued by the Vice Chancellor. The incident also brought to light a significant lapse in vigilance, given that it occurred in close proximity to the location where vigilance staff is stationed.

Student leader Pankaj Jaiswal termed the incident very serious and suggested that it might have been orchestrated. He emphasised that while offering Namaz is not wrong, it should be done in the mosque. He pointed out that the university is a place of learning where people of all religions come to study, and it should not be a source of controversy. He urged the authorities to conduct an investigation and take appropriate action to set an example.

It’s worth noting that eight months ago, a video of a Muslim student offering Namaz in the Botany Department lobby here went viral.

In another incident earlier, a separate video depicted a young man and a young woman offering Namaz in front of the gate of the Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya on the university premises. This video also generated controversy and prompted demands for an inquiry by university authorities. At that time, an inquiry committee was established, and security measures were enhanced. However, it seems that the recent incident went unnoticed by security. DeshGujarat
