20 held for obscene gestures during Eid procession in Vadodara

Vadodara: The police has nabbed twenty individuals on allegations of causing offense to religious sentiments during a procession held to commemorate Eid Milad un Nabi in Padra here.

Among 13 accused who are booked are Salman Malek Buchiyo, Faizal Vhora, Sikandar Painter Bodiyo, Mira Omlet famed Aiyub, Saif Alikhan Sheikh, Sami Garasiya, Avez Vhora, Nawab Mirza, Yakum Malik, Saizan Pathan, Tiger-KFC group’s man, Aslam Malek and Anwar among others.

As the procession passed by a temple on Friday night, some participants reportedly engaged in indecent actions and uttered words that hurt religious sensitivities, as reported by Superintendent of Police (Vadodara Rural) Rohan Anand.

In response to these actions, a group from the Hindu community gathered outside the Padra police station, demanding stern measures against the wrongdoers, explained Anand.

The gathering was eventually dispersed, and following a complaint lodged by Ajay Parmar, an FIR was filed against 13 identified individuals, as well as others whose identities remain unknown but were part of the procession, the SP stated.

They have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 143 (unlawful assembly), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), 294B (obscene acts and songs), 298 (uttering words with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings), and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), he added.

Further investigations into the incident are currently underway, according to the Superintendent of Police. DeshGujarat
