Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd to supply 72 standard gauge cars for Surat Metro phase 1

Surat: The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRCL) has entered into an agreement with Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL), for commissioning of 72 standard gauge cars for the Surat Metro Rail Phase 1 Project. Furthermore, TRSL has secured a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) for the supply of 30 standard gauge cars for Phase II of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project.

The estimated cost of this project for TRSL is Rs 857 crores (approximately). The contract’s execution is scheduled to commence 76 weeks after the contract signing, with an expected completion within 132 weeks thereafter.

The contract encompasses the design, manufacturing, supply, testing, commissioning, and training of these advanced metro cars, which will be produced at TRSL’s Uttarpara plant, situated in the Hooghly district of West Bengal.

The Surat Metro Rail Project comprises two corridors, totaling 40.45 kilometers with 38 stations and an estimated budget of Rs 12,020 crores. These corridors are Sarthana-Dream City and Bhesan-Saroli. The Sarthana-Dream City corridor, spanning 21.61 kilometers, will feature 20 stations, while the 18.74-kilometer Bhesan-Saroli corridor will include 18 metro stations.

In August 2023, the Kolkata-based company secured a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from GMRC for the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Phase-II Project. This project has an order value of approximately Rs 350 crores.
