Gujarat CM meets with top business leaders in Mumbai in run up to VGGS 2024

Mumbai: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel had one-on-one meetings with top industry leaders in Mumbai and invited them to the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024. The CM is in the financial capital of the country for the Vibrant Gujarat Roadshow held in the run-up to VGGS 2024.
During his series of one-on-one meetings, CM Patel met with the Chairman of Tata Sons Pvt Ltd, Shri Natarajan Chandrasekaran. In this meeting, the Chairman mentioned that the Tata Group is one of the largest investors in Gujarat, with a presence in power, automobiles, chemicals, and information technology. He highlighted the flexible assembly line at the Sanand facility, where various models of passenger vehicles, including Tigor and Tiago, are manufactured, including EV models.
Regarding investments in Gujarat, Shri Natarajan informed that the Tata Group has agreed to build an EV battery plant in Sanand at a cost of Rs 13,000 crore. Tata Agaratas Energy Storage Solutions Pvt Ltd., a subsidiary of the Tata Group, has signed an MoU with the Government of Gujarat to set up a giga factory for the production of Lithium-ion cells.
Additionally, Tata Chemicals plans to establish India’s largest Lithium-ion Battery plant in Dholera. Tata Group and Airbus have signed a Joint Venture to manufacture transport aircraft at Vadodara, with the foundation stone laid by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi last year.
The CM commended the Tata Group for its significant investments in renewable and green energy. He expressed the willingness to allocate funds under various categories in the second phase of the solar PLI (Production Linked Incentive) Scheme to Tata Power Solar, a leading company in the energy sector. Through GIFT City, Gandhinagar, Tata Group-owned Air India has completed the acquisition of its first A350 aircraft.
The CM also informed them about the recently announced Renewable Energy Policy – 2023. Under this policy, the CM expressed readiness to provide various incentives to the Tata Group for setting up charging stations across the state. He also invited them to the Vibrant Gujarat Summit-2024.
The Chief Minister also met with the Reliance Industries Chairman, Mukesh Ambani during the visit.

Later, Chief Minister Patel met with Mr. L.V. Vaidyanathan, the Managing Director of P&G. Mr. Vaidyanathan shared valuable insights about P&G, highlighting its remarkable 180-year history and its wide range of products, including brands like Vicks, Ariel, Tide, Whisper, Olay, Gillette, Pampers, Pantene, Oral-B, Herbal Essences, Head & Shoulders, Braun, and Old Spice.
The Chief Minister met with Prashant Ruia, the Group Director of Essar. The company, on its official handle, stated that it plans to announce their forthcoming investments in the Green Hydrogen, Power Generation, and Port sectors.
CM Patel also met with UPL Chairman Mr. Jai Shroff. Mr. Shroff provided information about the company’s global presence, with business operations in more than 140 countries. They have manufacturing facilities in Bharuch, Vapi, and Ankleshwar in Gujarat. Recently, they established a groundbreaking renewable energy project in Gujarat in partnership with CleanMax.
In the series of these meetings, CM Patel met Shri S.N. Subrahmanyan, Chairman of Larsen & Toubro. Subrahmanyan discussed L&T’s 80-year history and their involvement in projects like executing certain sections of the country’s first high-speed rail corridor, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR). He shared their production of Green Hydrogen based on the Alkaline Electrolysis process at Hazira and investment of Rs. 1,000 crore. Gujarat is L&T’s preferred choice for investments in most of their projects.
Subrahmanyan also discussed L&T’s upcoming plans in Gujarat, including expanding their retail portfolio of assets, and an MoU signed with the Government of Gujarat to set up an IT and IT-Enabled Services (ITeS) Park in Vadodara with an investment of Rs. 7,000 crore. He stated that L&T has been an active partner of the Vibrant Summit since 2005 and extended an invitation to participate in the Vibrant Summit to be held in 2024.
Chief Minister Patel also held a meeting with Ms. Kaku Nakhate, President and Country Head of Bank of America. Nakhate discussed the successful functioning of the Global Business Service Centre of Bank of America in GIFT City, Gandhinagar, and expressed her gratitude towards the state government for its support. Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel extended an invitation to participate in the Round Table Conference scheduled for January 10 at GIFT City as part of Vibrant Summit 2024 and also to join the Techade event happening alongside the main event.
In another meeting, CM held talks with Mr. Dipak Gupta, MD & CEO of Kotak Mahindra Bank. During the meeting, Mr. Gupta provided details about the International Financial Services Center Banking Unit [IBU] of Kotak Mahindra Bank, set up in Gujarat International Finance Tec – (GIFT) City. He shared that the bank, in association with Shroff Foundation Trust (SFT), has launched Kushalta Ka Nirman – a CSR Project for skill development in Gujarat. Along with this, two Digital Banking Units of Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. were launched in Surat and Mehsana in partnership with the Government’s 75 Digital Banking Units (DBUs) in 75 Districts initiative.
The Chief Minister expressed willingness to support the expansion of education and livelihood projects in Gujarat under Kotak Group’s CSR initiatives. He also invited Mr. Gupta to participate in both the Vibrant Gujarat Startup Conclave, scheduled for December in Ahmedabad, and the roundtable at GIFT City, Gandhinagar, on January 10, 2024.
